New Orleans wraps up Mardi Gras with blowout celebration

After weeks of pre-celebration, it’s finally Mardi Gras in New Orleans!

Though “Mardi Gras” is French for “Fat Tuesday” and is truly meant for Christians to throw a feast before Lent, people all over the world have turned the holy day into their own personal partying holiday — especially in the Big Easy.

When they weren’t getting wild, New Orleans natives and tourists documented all the colorful fun on social media.

The NOLA crowds partied extra hard Tuesday night because Mardi Gras also coincided with the city’s Tricentennial — or 300th anniversary.
